A happy and healthy 2012 to everyone who loves to spa with us! The team have had an excellent 2011 which has seen us as finalists of: the Professional Beauty, Spa of the year award; the fitness industry Flame award for best UK fitness club; and my own Catey award win for Spa professional of the year. So, although we have a lot to be proud of, we are always looking to what we can do better for our guests and members for the coming year, and I look forward to writing a regular blog to help keep you all abreast of our exciting events, treatments and services in the coming months, starting with the theme of healthy living, and what better way to live a healthier life than to spend some relaxing time in the spa!

Why New Year's Diet Resolutions Don't Work

After the first week of January it may be dawning on you that your New Year's resolution to: slip into size 8 jeans; develop upper arms like Madonna; sign up for night classes; stay sober; become more interesting at dinner parties; or volunteer to look after old people/adopt a goat/donate your body to medical science/buy the big issue or whatever else tickles your charitable fancy; are just not coming to anything, then maybe it's time to get to grips with the fact that resolutions don't work.

You are not alone and, I am sure, only human. Our nature does not respond well to deprivation and denial following fun and fabulous food, so failure is inevitable! If any regime, such as the Dukan, Detox or cabbage soup diet was any good we would be on it all year, but the truth is that feast and famine are no way to approach healthy and joyful eating. They can set you on a spiral of failure, making you more miserable and in need of more wine and treats.

Spa lifestyle is about focussing on something healthy which also makes you happy; like a new activity, a brisk walk in the fresh air, a new top, a relaxing and gorgeous spa treatment or divine and nourishing food, bearing in mind that a little of what you fancy does you good...we just need to apply the "little" more thoroughly!

Life is for living, reward your achievements, enjoy your activities and recognise how fabulous you already are.
