Baker Mallett

Baker Mallett is a long established practice of Construction Consultants who provide a variety of professional services to clients within the built environment. Trading initially commenced as a firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors after the Great War and has subsequently developed into a national practice employing in excess of 70 staff. Originally founded in 1919 at Tonbridge, Kent, the practice expanded into Teesside in 1957 whereby further offices have been opened at Warrington, Whitehaven and Carlisle in the North West and Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Selkirk in the North East and Scottish Borders respectively.

Baker Mallett offer clients a diversification of services with Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Cost Engineering, Contract Consultants and CDM Coordinators forming the core of the practices business. These services are carried out in both the traditional and petro-chemical sectors of the industry. In January 2004 Baker Mallett became a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP). This has given the opportunity of restructuring the practice into a modern national entity whilst retaining the key cultural aspects of a partnership that Baker Mallett, and their Clients, value so highly.

Hawtree Ltd Golf Course Architects

Hawtree has been associated with golf and golf course development since 1912. The Hawtree dynasty is probably the longest continuous practices in golf course architecture. The experience and knowledge, which derive from two father-son exchanges, are now at the centre of a multi-disciplinary practice known throughout the world. Hawtree has a wealth of understanding of the development of both the game and its courses. The integrity of the site, perception of views, ideas, fashions, styles, the challenge and the original fun and enjoyment of the game is fundamental to Hawtree designs. The collective experience of the practice, having been involved in more than 800 golf courses, old and new, has laid down the framework for a modern, professional service. Hawtree designs include:

  • Royal Birkdale Golf Club England 18 holes complete redevelopment 1932,
  • Vilamoura Portugal, Old Course redevelopment and Millenium Course 18 holes
  • The New Dunlaoghaire Golf Club 27-hole Golf Club relocation
  • Lahinch Golf Club Ireland, 18-hole redevelopment
  • Royal Dublin Golf Club Ireland, 18-hole redevelopment
  • Dooks Golf Club Ireland, 18-hole redevelopment
  • Golden Greens Golf & Country Club New Delhi India 18 holes
  • Reems Creek Golf Club North Carolina U.S.A 18 holes
  • Royal Waterloo Golf Club Belgium, 18 holes
  • Whychwood Park, England, 36-holes

The international portfolio of Hawtree has provided us with an awareness of the importance of various approaches and design strategies necessary for the diverse climates and cultures of the world. With a high proportion of time being spent at existing golf clubs, the everyday problems of managing, remodeling and refining courses for today’s needs are well understood. Our golf course architects set themselves exacting standards. The same care and effort continue with the preparation of the detailed design of the golf course, great importance is applied towards the site to preserve its existing character and create an individual golf course inspired by the site and ensuring the contentment of a wide variety of golfer. Using the latest software, Hawtree can transform designs into realistic 3D images, which allow the client to visualize the proposed scheme and to walk through the course. The Hawtree service includes all or some of the following stages:

  • Feasibility studies - a preliminary layout plan with costings to a much more elaborate study of the site, including an analysis of the landscape, geology, soils and drainage, the constraints upon design and construction, methods of building, a full estimate of cost, and a programme of work.
  • Project - Full set of working drawings, for site clearance, earthmovement drainage, irrigation, preparation and seeding, and tree planting as well as detailed contoured drawings of each green, tee, and bunker. Specifications are concise, with contract documents prepared according to ICE or FIDIC conditions of contract.
  • Supervision - The range is comprehensive from full-time project manager at one end, to periodic visits, with the client organising day to day supervision, rarely will a design-only service be undertaken. Plans are prepared in considerable detail, but the finishing work will invariably be overseen on site.
  • Maintenance - An agronomist’s support statement will be issued to the client but the practice sees the need for regular visits from consultant greenkeepers and agronomists for a period of up to five years.

Hawtree Ltd’s latest and current projects include a new18-hole links Golf Course in Scotland for Donald Trump, an 18-hole links in Brazil as well as new golf courses in the Ukraine, India and Sweden.
