Technology has advanced in chemicals and fertilisers, and the complexity of how these products function. Machinery has improved and become more available to aid efficiency and improve or replace existing cultural methods. With this in mind it is important to integrate training and development into the team’s work schedule to keep up to date with the industry.
Machinery suppliers provide training packages in accordance with their equipment, but also can go further to develop individuals so they themselves can become a Trainer and deliver training on behalf of the supplier. This not only helps the individual gain personal skills which could help to gain career progression later on, it also allows for a safe working environment in which the team can operate. We arrange for suppliers to deliver presentations to our team on their products but also on the ‘science’ and how these products work, whether it be the chemistry and break down of the fertiliser or chemical, or the biology of how it effects the turf itself.
Along with these training packages and external seminars that we aim to provide our team, our industry’s organisation, The British and International Golf Greenkeeper’s Association (BIGGA) excels in providing events and training to all Greenkeepers, so we can maintain standards to the highest level and deliver the expectation of today’s golfer.
