Cinderella at Darlington Hippodrome
Pantomimes are back! Oh no they aren’t, oh yes they are and we couldn’t be more thrilled as they’re full of fun and laughs for the whole family, especially in the run up to Christmas. This year’s production is Cinderella, The Fairy Godmother of all Pantos and stars Steps singer Faye Tozer, comedian Patrick Monahan and musician Pete Peverley and TV star Phil Corbitt. If you want to go to the ball this Christmas, be sure to book your tickets soon as it’s sure to be a sell-out and is expected to be full of fun. With beautiful costumes and lots of humour, join Cinders as she finds her glass slipper and discovers her Prince Charming.

Durham & York Markets
Stop by the Durham Outdoor Market every Saturday for a fabulous experience including stalls from food to fashion and even more bespoke traders – of which all are small independent businesses Open from 9am – 4pm all-year-round it’s a must if you’re visiting the area. Just another train ride away, the Shambles Market in York is another historic and vibrant event which showcases local independent traders every day of the week. From fresh flowers to quality gifts, you can spend the whole day wandering round the wonderful streets of York, and if you’re a Harry Potter fan there’s plenty of links to the wizarding world.

Light up the night with Lumiere this November, an exceptional light show which is set to illuminate Durham city for four nights. With a programme that extends into the wider country for the very first time, it’ll include 37 artworks from installations to projections and quitter works of art showcasing everything light has to offer. This year Lumiere are also collaborating with some of the UK’s leading poets and will launch their first online and in-person interactive artwork, with new interactive sound works also. It’s set to be a show that you don’t want to miss and as always tickets are free but do hurry as they tend to go fast.

Festive season will soon be in full swing and there’s a wide range of Christmas markets already set to get ourselves sparkling and full of Christmas spirit. To name a few, Raby Castle, Durham Christmas Festival and The Bowes Museum all have their itinerates launched with a host of sights, sounds and food on offer for the whole family. Expect twinkling lights, mulled wine and the controversial mince pie, but it’s official, Christmas is back and it’s better than ever!
The Raby Castle Christmas Market runs from Saturday 4th to Sunday 5th December with free entry. Durham Christmas Festival is Friday 3rd December to Sunday 5th December with free entry, but tickets need to be booked for the Crafts and Gift Marquee. The Bowes Museum Christmas Market runs from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th December and tickets need to be booked.
