It’s the fifth consecutive year that this 36 hole scratch competition has taken place at Rockliffe Hall. It is part of the County Durham Scratch Order of Merit (OOM), which means that the top 20 placed Durham County competitors will receive between 125 and 5 ranking points to add to their final OOM for 2016.
The tournament challenges the best club golfers from across Teesside, County Durham, North Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Cumbria - category one golfers with a handicap of five or below are now invited to apply to enter with places this year limited to 42.
The tournament entry fee is £35 per person and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. Concessionary rates for practice rounds are available for anyone confirmed as participating as well as accommodation packages for the nights surrounding the competition (subject to availability). Players are welcome to bring a caddy.
Golf and Estate Director, Davy Cuthbertson, said “As our NGM is now part of the Durham County Order of Merit, we’re expecting the event to be even more popular. Also, as it could be the final qualifying tournament of the season, it’s all to play for. The NGM is always a great event and golfers get a real flavour of what it’s like to play in a top competition on a world class course, played by the likes of ex Ryder Cup Captains Sam Torrance, Ian Woosnam and Mark James.”
Last year’s event was won by Andrew Wilson from Darlington with a score of 142 (-2).
