#Sleeptember – Eat, Sleep, Move & Mood

Eat, sleep, move and mood – simplistically speaking these are the four cornerstones of wellness.

You know that when you are eating well, sleeping great, exercising consistently and are in a good place you feel fantastic. Throw in a few missed night’s sleep, too many ‘grab and go’ lunches and a diminishing desire to work out and the sunny disposition begins to fade.
As this month is #sleeptember, a new initiative running throughout September to remind us all of the healthy benefits of a good night’s sleep, we have teamed up with Sleep Experts Neom to find out how to improve the chances of getting a good night’s rest.
Digital Detox
It’s no coincidence that more and more of us are getting less quality sleep since the invention of the Smartphone. According to Ofcom, 8/10 of us have our phone by the bed, not only is there the over stimulation of the brain, disruptions from notifications and the temptation to check emails one last time but there is also evidence that the light emitted can mess with your body’s natural rhythms. I have just invested in a good old fashioned alarm clock instead of using the one on my phone and am already starting to feel more rested.
Have a Routine
Trickier for shift workers like myself but I try to ensure that I go to bed and get up at the exact same time wherever possible and if I think that sleep may elude me due to my busy mind I add some lovely rituals into my bedtime.
