The Golf Services Team make up the journey that begins with the initial welcome at The Clubhouse and ends with being met off the 18th hole at the end of the round.

This friendly and well-established team are masters of the golf course and are proud to put the guest experience at the forefront of everything they do in a process that runs like clockwork. At the helm of the team is Tom West, our Golf Operations Manager & PGA Professional.

We caught up with Tom to talk about the five-star service the Golf Services Team offer to our guests and what you can expect when playing golf at Rockliffe Hall.

On Arrival

Host

The Golf Services Team provide that all-important first impression and will welcome you warmly on your arrival to play the course. We receive regular feedback regarding the friendly, hospitable and knowledgeable team.

The host will greet you at your car in true five-star service, take care of your bags and clubs to ensure they will be ready to collect for the 1st tee or Driving Range.

Then you've got time to get changed and perhaps enjoy a pre-round drink in the Spikes Bar in The Clubhouse.

If you ask any of the team, they will be sure to say that they love meeting new faces and using their expertise to enhance the golfing experience, as well as building a rapport with the golf members.

Every member of the team is passionate about golf and enjoys the banter allowing them to enjoy engaging with guests and providing useful tips about the course.

Out on the Course

Driving Range

The Golf Services Team service the Driving Range to ensure there are plenty of balls, they keep the bays neat and tidy and pick up the balls., even in winter with no tractor assistance. Walking the 300 yards carrying balls back to the range in the dark and the cold is not a favourite job!

The Driving Range and short game area are great ways to warm up before your round.

Starter

The Starter is positioned near the 1st tee ready to provide essential information on the golf course regarding its layout and quirks as well as the offering at the Halfway House as well as a rundown on course etiquette.

The perfect way to start your round of golf.

Halfway House

The Golf Services Team also operate the Halfway House offering a range of drinks and snacks to keep you refreshed during your round.

Course marshal

Ensuring safety on the course, the marshal will keep an eye on golf course etiquette, checking that bunkers are raked and divots repaired. They will also help maintain the pace of play to support all players on getting the most out of the experience of playing the golf course.

At the end of your round

The 18th Hole

At the end of the round, you will be met from the 18th hole to have your clubs cleaned and brought round to the front of The Clubhouse for collection when you're ready to leave.

The Clubhouse

Rest your legs and celebrate or commiserate in The Clubhouse with a delicious meal or drink from the bar. You deserve it!

Secrets of the course

The Golf Services Team are actively encouraged to play the course to ensure they get to know it well. Each hole has its own unique characteristics, read on for a taste of a a few of these quirks straight from the team:

The 3rd hole

A medium length par 5 where the prevailing wind is down the hole, the big hitters can get there in 2 shots. But a tilted green guarded by a well-positioned lake can easily change people’s minds!

The 8th hole

A long par 4 is known as the hardest hole on the course as it plays into the prevailing wind – known within the team as ‘a good challenge’

The 18th hole

This hole plays right to left which is the opposite of most people’s swing which is often left to right. The other quirk of this hole is that everyone in the Spikes Bar is watching you whilst they enjoy their pre or post round drink! Don't worry it will be you soon...

The Golf Course

Designed by Hawtree, the world-renowned course architects, Rockliffe Hall’s 18-hole championship golf course is renowned for being challenging with a choice of five tee positions for each hole.

It is one of the longest golf courses in the UK from the gold tees. The extensive drainage results in no winter greens or tees.
