We are delighted to introduce Tom West our new Head of Golf.

For some though, Tom is already a familiar face at Rockliffe Hall having started his Rockliffe journey as an Assistant Golf Professional in March 2013.

Over the past 10 years Tom has had a few spells at Rockliffe Hall in various roles, as well as taking opportunities to expand his experience with two years at Gleneagles and two and a half years at Close House.

Tom returned ‘home’ to Rockliffe Hall in November 2021 in the position of Resort Membership Manager, followed by a promotion to Golf Operations Manager in March ’22 which provided the chance to focus on his passion of operations and retail.

About his new role, Tom commented:

‘I am excited by the opportunity to lead the team forwards as Head of Golf at this exciting time when membership is in a very strong position and we have a great partnership with PMG offering world class coaching’.

‘My ambition is to continue pushing our levels of excellence forward to match the 5 Red Star status of the hotel for the benefit of our members and guests; working closely with partners such as 59 Club will help this’.

According to Tom, being a PGA professional doesn’t mean you get to play golf as much as you like but despite this, he has always enjoyed playing the Championship golf course at Rockliffe Hall.

About the golf course, Tom commented:

‘The variation of tee boxes not only allows golfers of all abilities to enjoy, but also each tee box makes you look at each hole differently. Does a par 5 now become reachable in 2 shots… Does a par 4 no longer require a driver from the tee… Do you lay up on a par 3! (15th hole from the gold tees, 242 yards into wind with water short and right, with bunkers left!). Every round can be totally different and that’s what I enjoy the most’.

When Tom is not golfing, he enjoys camping and long walks in the hills with his wife and their Labrador, or becoming ‘at one with the sofa’ and getting engrossed in a series on Netflix. Tom and his wife are also big foodies who enjoy eating out and have ambitions of travelling across the country to sample some of the best restaurants in the UK.

Tom is also a lifelong Boro fan and enjoys being able to watch the team train and get to know a few players by having them as members. Tom’s other interest is NFL and he is a big New England Patriots fan ever since watching Tom Brady in their final seconds Superbowl win in 2004. He hasn’t missed a Superbowl since!
