Adam Rochester wins the Northern Golf Masters trophy for the second year in a row!
On September 8th, golfers from across the North travelled to Rockliffe Hall to participate in one of the region’s premier amateur golf tournaments.
Since 2012, the Northern Golf Masters has challenged the top club golfers to determine who is the number 1 amateur golfer in the North of England.
Hosted on Rockliffe Hall’s 18-hole golf course, renowned as one of the best in the UK, the tournament presents a true test of skill and determination.
On the day...
In typical British fashion, September 8th brought with it plenty of rain and wind – replicating the difficult playing conditions of the Northern Golf Masters 2023.
With the top three players recording four birdies each, it was a battle to see who could persevere for the remaining 14 holes to determine the final positions. In fact, the top three were the only players in the 49-person field to break par.
Despite this, Adam Rochester emerged as the top golfer yet again with a standout score of -2, 70, matching his winning result from last year. Close behind, John Kennedy and Jack Burton ended their rounds at -1, 71.
Rochester’s impressive performance and talent secured him his second Northern Golf Masters title. Making him the second player to win this tournament more than once. The first being Sam Donald in 2014 and 2016.
Words from the winner...
Back-to-back Northern Golf Masters champion, Adam Rochester, said, “I was looking forward to defending my title, I’ve played well all year and finished just 1 shot back in 4 different tournaments so I’ve been very close to a win!
After getting my county colours the day before my confidence was high so I expected to challenge for the trophy again so I’m happy that it went my way.
To defend the Rockliffe Northern Masters title against a strong field with some really good players is obviously satisfying, I always enjoy playing Rockliffe and most of the time I seem to play well.
The biggest factor on the day was the weather so a big thanks to my caddy Jamie who helped keep everything as dry as possible.
I look forward to defending my title again next year and hopefully making it 3 in a row!”
Head of Golf at Rockliffe Hall, Tom West shared his thoughts on this year's competition, “It’s great to host the Northern Golf Masters as we enjoy showcasing the golf course at Rockliffe Hall from the Black Tees, and to see some of the best golfers in the region taking on the 7,231-yard challenge, is certainly exciting to watch.
Full credit must go to our excellent greenkeeping team, with the issues golf clubs are facing with the cold summer weather, the golf course was in superb condition for the day, despite the rain that fell.
Finally, a congratulations to our winner Adam Rochester, the first player to go back-to-back in victories in the 12 years we have hosted the event, an excellent and steady round of golf in those conditions.”
