April Fools!

The team at Rockliffe Hall have unearthed an abundance of ‘magical mud’ underneath the resort’s walled kitchen garden which will be used in a brand-new range of detoxifying and anti-aging treatments at the five-star resort.

The clay soil was discovered during the recent renovation works taking place in the walled kitchen gardens, which are due to reopen to guests later this Spring. The gardeners each noticed the skin on their hands was incredibly soft, nourished and looked visibly younger after long days spent working in the gardens.

After closer investigation the team learned that the clay-based soil contained unique minerals believed to be enriched by the spa waters from nearby Croft, which attracted visitors from across the country in the 1800’s and inspired elements of Lewis Carroll’s novel, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The multi-award-winning Spa has spent the past few months extracting the mud and developing two brand new treatments which will launch to guests this April including:

  • The Barrow of Mud Ritual will allow guests to bathe in an oversized wheelbarrow filled with the magic mud, warmed to a balmy 38 °C which will emulate a thermal experience, detoxifying skin, improving circulation and easing muscular aches and pains.
  • The Mud Glorious Mud Facial will incorporate a nourishing and detoxifying clay mask to cleanse and brighten skin, reducing the signs of aging and eliminating skin impurities.
  • The magic mud will also be available to enjoy as a new experience called 'Mud, Sweat and Cheers' which incorporates Rockliffe Hall’s mud rasul steam bathing chamber, inspired by an ancient Middle Eastern custom of herbal steam and mud bathing for groups of 2 to 6 guests followed by a  glass of sparkling wine in Nu Sana.

Ashley Freeman, Rockliffe Hall’s Spa Manager, said: “We usually source our Spa mud from the Himalayas, the Dead Sea and other mineral-rich geolocations. Now we have discovered our enriched clay-based Estate Mud we’ll be able to produce treatments ourselves which are completely unique to Rockliffe Hall.”

She continued: “These three brand-new treatments will allow guests to experience the unique, magical healing qualities of Rockliffe Estate Mud and have already proved to be incredibly popular with the few members of our team who have tried them. We can’t wait to share the magic of Rockliffe Hall’s mud with a wider audience this spring.”

Treatments prices range from £95 to £135 for the Barrow of Mud and Glorious Mud Facial.

The Mud, Sweat and Cheers experience upgrade is available from £45 per person including a mud rasul ritual (suitable for 2 to 6 people), followed by a glass of fizz in Nu Sana to celebrate your newly glowing skin.

The curiously magical mud itself will also be available to purchase in the Spa Boutique while stocks last.
