We want you to get to know the real Rockliffe Hall and the team who provide our five-star service. We sat down with team member, Anton Coburn to find out more about his role and what he gets up to in his spare time.

Name: Anton Coburn

Job Title: Head Concierge

Joined Rockliffe Hall: November, 2009

What is your role and how long have you been at Rockliffe Hall?

My role here at Rockliffe Hall is Head Concierge. My team and I are responsible for meeting and greeting all of the guests, taking luggage to rooms, valet parking and taking care of all guest requests (as long as they are not illegal or immoral). I have been looking after guests for the 12 years Rockliffe Hall has been open, with me greeting the very first guest all those years ago.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love building professional relationships with our many regular guests. There have been plenty that have sent me cards and letters thanking me over the years.

What is the weirdest request you have ever had at work?

It was summer and a guest who was to stay 4 nights a week for the next 8 months asked me if I knew somewhere she could buy a sledge. It turned out that she was training for a once in a life-time Polar expedition and her training was to drag a heavily laden sledge.

I arranged for a sledge to be made and we kept it on the grounds, and every morning she would drag it down our woodland walk towards the river and back.

A year after she left, I received a postcard from a polar staging post thanking me for helping her achieve her lifelong goal.

Is there anything you love to do in your spare time?

My spare time is now taken up with my Shire horse. She is a 19 hands beautiful beast of a thing and every other day we can be found hacking out around the countryside.

Do you have a favourite film or TV show you like to watch?

Television is not my thing but on the rare occasion that I do watch, it would be a random box set my wife has suggested.

If you could go anywhere in the world on holiday, where would you go and why?

My dream is not one destination. I would love to sail around the world in an old four mast ship. It’s not the destination for me but the journey and the people.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Strive every day to bring joy to people’s lives.
