Ben rested up in our super comfortable king sized beds on Monday evening in between marathons. On Tuesday, Ben ran his 260th consecutive marathon alongside runners from Darlington Harriers & Athletic Club.
Currently up to approximately 6,812 miles, Ben has already broken the Guinness World Record for most marathons run in most consecutive days (52 is the male record). The challenge will be completed on 5th October 2016 and within this time Ben will have completed 9 official marathons as well as his own.
The 401 Challenge have raised over £93,000 via their Virgin Money Giving fundraising page and a further £11,000 through text donate fundraising for two chosen Anti-Bullying charities Kidscape and Stonewall. They have also launched an online store that provides technical running wear for adults and Anti Bullying T-shirts consisting of motivational messages for children.
Ben has had public support from the likes of Dame Kelly Holmes, Olympians Steve Cram, Paula Radcliffe, Daley Thompson and further support from Stonewall founder Baron Cashman, Rio Ferdinand, Tim Henman and Chris Evans.
Part of this challenge is to raise awareness of the shocking effects bullying can have on an individual. Ben has already visited 65 education establishments to deliver motivational talks to young people about his experience of bullying and why he has decided to embark on this mammoth challenge.
Ben has also been recognised for his educational outreach work and has been awarded both the Braveheart and Public Choice awards from the North Somerset Mercury Heroes Awards in 2015. Ben was also shortlisted for the #GivingTuesday Charity Champion and Fundraiser of the Year at the 2016 Charity Staff Awards.
As of the 17th May 2016, 5,355 people have run with Ben, of those 517 have achieved a personal best. A further 226 have become first time Marathon runners. Ben has run through a total of 13 pairs of Zoot trainers and has visited 65 schools where he has delivered educational talks about the harmful effects of bullying.
