I hope all is well.
When the sun shines at Rockliffe it really is beautiful. This week we have hosted both the Sunderland and Middlesbrough golf days and they picked the best weather of any. I genuinely hope the Black Cats and Geordies stay up and the ‘Boro’ boys are able to join them in the Premier League. Not only will it be brilliant for the North East economy but for all of the North East football followers. So please keep your fingers crossed that we will end up in that top league.
Life at Rockliffe is going great and all the teams are now in the correct place in order to surge Rockliffe into the elite hotel domain. We recently had a wonderful AA inspection where the feedback was the best I have seen for 20 years. Every team is now motivated to deliver what each department should in one of the best establishments in the UK and Ireland. The positivity does not stop there. We had a brilliant meeting with our owner and Chairman (Steve and Warwick) last week where we will be looking at ideas to contribute to what is already an amazing product. Watch this space!
We have 4 key USPs at Rockliffe, food and drink, spa, golf and the most important one – our people. Of all our USPs I feel that we would challenge any property in the UK and Ireland in all areas. The last USP people, which in my humble opinion is what differentiates Rockliffe to most competitors is the one that I would like to elaborate on. We employ 250 people and out of the 250, 230 are from this area. That is an amazing statistic and one that most properties in the UK and Ireland cannot achieve. It is my goal to identify all starlets in our team and develop them where possible. Just take a look at the calibre of people that we have and what they get up to in their spare time:
- Ashley Freeman – Shot-put champion (not your normal shot-putter)
- Matty Hynes – one of the top 5 marathon runners in the UK, look out for him in this week’s London Marathon
- Katie Scott – Triathlete (and just completed the Manchester Marathon)
- Hannah Kent – Bikini champion
- Richard Allen –Thai boxer and cyclist
- Paul O Hara – Martial arts expert
- Michael Purdie – Wrestler
- Angela Doran – Mountain biker
- Karen Jennings – Pole dancer (for fitness reasons guys), wing walker and sky diver
We are lucky to have them all and it will be my intention to make sure we can develop and make them the best that they can be in the coming years.
There are also some great events in the pipeline over the next few months. The Sky Sports team are here mid-May (although sadly Jeff, Charlie and Chris have sold this event out months ago). It should be a great night and we are all looking forward to it. Another great friend of mine Angela from the phenomenon Calendar Girls is here for a lunch in June which will be excellent and we will be raising more money for this great cause which has now obtained millions of pounds since Angela and her friends began their journey. I would ask also that you all dig deep for the cycle ride which Rich stupidly said we would do in July for another great cause. We will cycle 200 miles in one day and hopefully raise as much money as we can for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
All the very best for now and long may the sunshine continue to shine!
