Saddling Up for Gruelling Great North Air Ambulance Fundraiser!

As many of you might know, our chosen charity for 2012 is the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

We feel it’s a really great charity not least because it saves lives and provides vital pre-hospital care at an accident scene, but also because it operates without Government funding and therefore relies entirely on public donations for its staff and three aircraft stationed across its two bases at Durham Tees Valley Airport, near Darlington, and at Langwathby, near Penrith in Cumbria.

So, throughout 2012, the team at Rockliffe Hall is helping to raise funds for the GNAAS by holding events such as staff fundraising activities, making prize donations and offering the resort as a venue for a variety of the GNAAS’s corporate events. However, one of our biggest challenges is just around the corner….We’ve got together a dedicated team of fundraisers who are gearing up to take on a 147 mile cycling challenge. Fourteen of our staff- including me- hope to raise hundreds of pounds for the GNAAS, by tackling the infamous Coast to Coast cycle route in September.

‘Team Rockliffe’, our team of intrepid cyclists, has been in training for several months, taking part in various cycling challenges around the UK in preparation for the gruelling Coast to Coast ride which starts in the former coal mining and industrial lands of West Cumbria, taking in a variety of tough terrains across the Lake District before ending in Tynemouth.

We know this is going to be really gruelling but we’re a hardy bunch who will encourage one another with our unending team spirit, I’m sure.

Our main aim is to raise funds for the GNAAS which is such a vital service supported by an amazingly dedicated team that saves lives. I think our three day trek is a small price to pay in return for this outstanding service.

As the oldest cyclist in our team, I am raring to go for this great challenge, but your encouragement in the form of sponsorship will give me even more motivation to complete this challenge. I may not be quite ‘over the hill’ yet, but I hope to make it over many of them during The Coast to Coast!

We’d be really grateful for any support you can offer for our Coast to Coast challenge which takes place from 6th-8th September. If you would like to sponsor ‘Team Rockliffe’ please visit

Thank you!
