Originally a two person team, including myself (Wendy Benson) and our now Marketing Manager, Katie Scott. Our team now consists of five individuals; all working together to drive the Rockliffe Hall brand forward and continually striving to excel our marketing with innovative and new ideas.
There is never a dull moment in the schedule of my marketing team; whether one or two of us are travelling around the country representing Rockliffe Hall as a potential meeting venue to event organisers from around the world, to organising the marketing of a new wine dinner or spa promotion.
My team is also busy organising meetings with prospective clients and journalists who wish to visit Rockliffe Hall to ‘see what all the fuss is about’; our team is never short of work and exciting opportunities to keep us motivated.
Marketing the whole five-red star resort here at Rockliffe Hall can be a challenging task; juggling spa, golf, dining, meetings, weddings and hotel; and ensuring that we give each resort area significant attention is an important task. Myself and my marketing team work closely alongside departmental managers and maintain a great working relationship to ensure that we are all striving towards the same destination; a world class, award winning resort. With such a fantastic resort offering here at Rockliffe Hall, every moment is precious time we can use to promote the resort and utilise our sales, PR and marketing experience to raise the profile of Rockliffe Hall, nationwide, and ultimately world-wide!
The recent English Senior Open which was held at Rockliffe Hall in October 2013 saw the whole Rockliffe Hall team work very hard with only five weeks to plan, implement and host the European Tour tournament. As a sales and marketing team, this involved everything from getting stories into the news and on radio and the TV (which you have seen on ITV News) via our great PR Manager, Anna Addision, as well as promoting the event via flyers, posters, adverts, email marketing and social media within our marketing team, Katie Scott and Debbie Rocket, to then selling corporate hospitality packages and sponsorship opportunities to our valued corporate clients (new and existing) via Sales Executive Debbie Mair. As Sales and Marketing Director, I was also hands on and helped ensure that my team were supported during the busy run up to the tournament, which was a great success!
As Rockliffe Hall is an award winning resort, this of course means that we have many award submissions to complete. From entering the North East Tourism awards to Spa awards and Marketing awards, my team work hard to ensure that we grasp any relevant opportunity to nominate Rockliffe Hall for awards, as we feel that the resort and hardworking staff deserve the recognition of at least being shortlisted. Our recent accolades included being awarded five red-stars by the AA, to Silver for Business Tourism at the Visit England Awards for Excellence and most recently our Marketing Team won Gold for ‘Best Direct Marketing Campaign’ at the Meetings Industry Marketing Awards (MIMA 2013). This award recognised the creativity and planning behind our pre-exhibition campaign for International Confex 2013, where we sent three pieces of direct mail to contacts on our meetings and events database to encourage them that the North East is not as far away from London as they thought and to come and meet us in London to discuss their meeting requirements. The campaign saw an increase in leads and significant increase on return on investment from the previous year, where we attended as a stand partner as opposed to a stand-alone venue.
With many more exciting events in the pipeline and with many new concepts to keep us busy, we are looking forward to expanding our team in the near future and welcoming two new team members to the Rockliffe Hall Marketing team, following the departure of Debbie Rocket to The Hurlingham Club in London.
My next major event is EIBTM in Barcelona, where I will be representing Rockliffe Hall in association with VisitEngland as an Independent venue! Hopefully the exhibition will generate new business from both the UK and abroad- and this will even be a great chance to sample some new authentic tapas and take a few ideas back to our Brasserie restaurant, where the menus are peppered with continental flavours!
