Organised by LACA (Lead Association for Catering in Education) and now in its fifth year, The Host a School Chef programme offers school chefs the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the catering industry, in some of the most celebrated restaurants in the country.
Last week the 4 AA Rosette Orangery restaurant welcomed Abdul Mahdoul, development chef at Walbottle Campus in Newcastle. There he cooks for approximately 900 students each day, aged between 11 and 18 years.
Abdul spent the day with Orangery Executive Chef, Richard Allen and Orangery Head Chef, Gary Duffy, prepping for The Orangery’s evening service which offers a fine dining, tasting menu experience.
Abdul said: “Everyone made me feel very welcome at Rockliffe Hall and I’d like to thank Richard, Gary and everyone in the kitchen, for this opportunity.”
Richard Allen said: “It’s a pleasure to support LACA National School Meals Week. School chefs do such fantastic work feeding millions of children healthy, nourishing meals every day. This initiative is a great opportunity for us to share their knowledge and improve skills, which ultimately benefits everyone.”
