Sir Ian Botham’s ‘Beefy’s Charity Foundation’ has been named as our new charity partner at a launch event on Friday evening. This announcement follows the success of fundraising for the Great North Air Ambulance Services (GNAAS) last year, which raised over £10,000 for the charity.
The launch event was a great success as businesses and organisations from around the North East listened intently to Sir Ian talk about his charity work and his cricketing career. A range of joint fundraising events were also unveiled for the coming months.
Cricket legend, Sir Ian, is generally considered the country’s greatest ever all-rounder having played in over 100 Test matches for England, scored 5,200 runs and having taken a record 383 Test wickets. Sir Ian’s Beefy Charity Foundation is well-known worldwide for raising funds for a number of good causes such as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, Cardiac Arrest in the Young, Battens Disease, Juvenile Diabetes and Brain Tumour Research in Yorkshire. Sir Ian himself has completed hundreds of challenges, including his 14 charity walks across the globe, and has raised over £13 million since 1985.
Each year Rockliffe Hall chooses a nominated charity to work with and the team carries out a range of fundraising activities including coast to coast rides, dinners, runs and sports matches.
Speaking about the new charity partnership, Sir Ian Botham said: “I have been fundraising for many years and it is wonderful to be able to do it on my own door step. Rockliffe Hall is a super venue and we will have a lot of fun while raising money and awareness for the charities under the Beefy Charity Foundation umbrella. We, as a family, look forward to this new and exciting partnership.”
Resort General Manager, Simon Roberts, added: “We place a lot of importance on being involved with regional charities and our local community. As much as we’d love to be able to fulfil the hundreds of requests we get every week, it’s impossible. That’s why we team up with a different charity each year. The Beefy Foundation does so much great work for a wide range of charities and we already have a number of events in the pipeline. We’re really excited about what’s planned and getting lots of people involved.”
